In 2014, Bob Cumming set this Little Free Library up just outside his house on the Upfield Shared Path, but after a vandal set it alight, he moved it to Station St - still on the bike path, but away from housing. The Library inspired another neighbour to plant an olive tree next to it....and just behind it is a site with lots of tree planting potential and some natives in to get things started! (Though some unfortunate tree cutting by metro contractors in June 2016 set this back somewhat.)
The Red Library also inspired another Free Library - just near the entrance of to the Coburg Train Station. Ex-fridge libraries came to recent fame in the rebuilding of Christchurch after the earthquake...

Located North of Moreland Road, this is now an elevated station with a prominent forecourt. Right near the commercial zone on Sydney Road between Moreland Road and Bell Street. For more information click the map:

A nice stretch of ironbarks keeps the west sun a little less intense and provides a great place for birds to hang out.
Planting started in May 2017, with about 15 of us planting an avenue along the bike path. We returned in June 2017 and here are some photos of people at work:

This is a beautiful spot...a face peering through foliage...carefully looked after through the addition of a watering system and a keen and excellent gardener....

On the westside of the trainline are a row of blackwoods, Acacia Impreza (light woods), Dodonias (hop bush), Melicytes (tree violet) andAcacia paradoxa planted by a local resident Tim Carver. He's keen for people to join him! In fact there is lots of potential for more planting along the westside all the way between Moreland and Coburg stations. Contact us to get in touch.

A photo of this part of the line was included with a poem by Sam Langer in the Spring 2015 edition of Overland called, "A Sky Open and Shut".
A new solar powered path lighting system was build on this part of the bike path in 2015. Night riding is now a pleasure along this stretch.
